On November 16th, 2024, collaborative courses by Meiji University, Tokushima Prefecture, and Tokushima University entitled " Toward an extension of healthy life expectancy " was held at the Meiji University Surugadai Campus Academy Hall, with 80 participants.
¡¡This collaborative courses, the 11th in the series, featured three experts each giving lectures on practical methods in the fields of medicine and exercise to extend "healthy lifespan," the period during which one is expected to live in good health.
¡¡First, Professor Morioka Hisayoshi, Department of Public Health, Tokushima University Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, gave his lecture titled "Towards extending healthy lifespan," in which he spoke from a medical perspective using statistics from previous surveys and other sources to analyze the characteristics of healthy lifespan in Japan and factors related to it. This was followed by a lecture by Professor Tanaka Toshio, Director of the Center for Community Engagement and Lifelong Learning, Tokushima University, entitled "Exercise programs to extend healthy lifespan," in which he discussed specific practical methods for incorporating the Shikoku Pilgrimage and Awa Odori dance into physical activity and exercise.
¡¡Next, Full-time Lecturer Rina Miyawaki at the School of Arts and Letters, Meiji University, gave a lecture titled "To extend healthy life expectancy: Be careful not to sit too much," in which she discussed sedentary behavior and its relationship to health, with a focus on the topic.
¡¡After lectures, Director Tanaka Toshiko and the Awa Odori Exercise Supporters demonstrated the "Awa Odori Exercise" with the participants, and then a panel discussion was held with the three speakers, in which they discussed how to extend healthy lifespan from their respective professional perspectives. There were many questions from the participants, and the lecture ended with a great success, showing the high level of awareness regarding healthy lifespan.
